I guess I should start by introducing myself, at least as much as I’m going to at this point. I’ve been a full-time legal assistant for about 20 years now. I work in civil litigation, both plaintiff and defense side (representing both individuals and corporations), with a primary focus on appellate work at present. I cover everything from subrogation (small and large claims), to a recent U.S. Supreme Court case, in which we received a unanimous decision. I currently have two attorneys assigned to me, my “main” attorney, who does appellate work and is a great person to work with, and a fairly new associate that’s about one year out of law school and I’ve had to help train since he graduated. He’s not a bad fellow, just needs a little breaking in still to round off his edges. I’ve had my share of neurotic, high-strung, unreasonable and very difficult attorneys to work for, so I’m appreciative of working for decent people when I’m can.
I’m lucky enough to have a wonderfully loving and supportive husband, two sons (one grown, one half grown), two dogs and a half million or so fish (ok, that may be a slight exaggeration). My political leanings, which are sure to rear their ugly head periodically, are on the fairly conservative side of the boat. I’m currently working on getting my paralegal certificate. I figure I’ve been doing the work long enough, I might as well get the piece of paper to hang on the wall.
I make no guarantees that I’ll update this daily, or will limit updates to once a day. And I definitely don’t guarantee that anyone will find my thoughts entertaining. But they are what they are, good or bad. Deal with it.
